Ministries
Saint John Chrysostom's Upper Room Prayer Group
has been the parish prayer group for over thirty years. We meet in the church to pray together, every Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM, from September 1st, thru December 31st, and from April 1st thru June 30th.The Upper room Prayer Group has been meeting at St. John Chrysostom parish since 1975. Before that time, the Prayer Group had met at St. Mary's parish in Dedham. Many of the early members have moved or died, but Anna Carrazza, Josephine Anastasia, and Eleanor Crehan are still active and dedicated members of the group.
At St. John's the Prayer Group meets Sept- December (weather permitting), and April-June, from 7:30-9:15 pm in the church. We usually average 10 - 16 people at our meetings. We pray for all the intentions of the parish, some telephoned in (Thank you, Anna), some mentioned at daily Mass, and some written in the Parish Book of Intercessions. We pray for the sick and those who care for them, the poor, the homeless, our servicemen and women, and children preparing to receive their sacraments
Many members of the Prayer Group are daily Mass goers. Some are Eucharistic Ministers. Some bring Holy Communion to the sick and shut-ins of the parish. Some are lectors at daily and Sunday Masses. Some members of the parish Hospitality Committee, assisting at parish celebrations and receptions. Everyone worked on the parish Bazaar, before, or on the day of the actual Bazaar. We bring food on Tuesday nights for the Loaves and Fishes basket to be given to the local Food Pantry. Every Fall, when the Catholic Television Apostolate has its big fundraiser, our group makes a generous donation. (Thank you, Eleanor, for always alerting us to the appeal) We feel that our parishioners enjoy and depend on the Catholic programming.
