Call the Parish Center to arrange for Baptism Date and Baptism Preparation Program. The Baptism Preparation class is required if this is your first child to be baptized.Baptism Preparation classes are held regularly. Please contact the parish office at 617-323-4410 or email to register for an upcoming class if you would like to have your child baptized here at Saint John's Parish.
Baptism: Preparation and Celebration
Baptism, the first sacrament of imitation for children, is a special event in the life of your child and the Church. Parents should contact the Parish Office to begin the process. This includes a scheduled meeting with the Pastoral Associate, Mary Lemire-Campion, to discuss the Sacrament and time of the ceremony. All parents and godparents are expected to attend this program.
Who becomes a Godparent? A godparent is a trusted, practicing Catholic who will ensure that the child will be raised in the Faith. Only one male or one female sponsor or one of each gender is to be asked. Requirements are: 1. be over the age of 16; 2. be a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the Sacrament of Holy Communion and 3. leads a life in harmony with the faith and role to be un-dertaken.
The godparent must not be the father or mother of the one to be baptized. A non-Catholic may not be the godparent but a "Christian witness" as long as the other godparent is a Catholic who has fulfilled the above requirements.
During infant Baptism, godparents are asked if they will help the parents in their duty as Christian parents. They are invited to renew their baptismal vows and assist in lighting the child's candle. However, parents hold the child for the baptism. All parents should know the requirements before asking someone to be a godparent.

"In the face of death, the Church confidently proclaims that God has created each person for eternal life and that Jesus, the Son of God, by his death and resurrection, has broken the chains of sin and death that bound humanity." Every Catholic Funeral Liturgy is a celebration of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The deceased is remembered as one who shared in Christ's life through baptism and so we believe that the deceased lives in Christ forever.
